Fennel Slices

The handy format makes fennel slices ideal as a side dish, dressed simply with oil and salt. They can also be used to prepare a delicate creamy soup garnished with bread croutons, or for a baked fennel gratin.

Directions

Cooking pan 8 minutes

Put the Fennels in a pan without thawing. Add a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of salt to taste. Cook for 6 minutes keeping the lid on. Then take the lid off and cook for another two minutes stirring frequently.

Microwave 7 minutes

Place the closed bag on a plate, with the back seal facing upwards. Put the plate in the microwave and cook for 7 minutes. After cooking, remove plate and bag from the microwave, and wait for another 1-2 minutes before opening it. Pour the Fennels into a bowl and use them as you prefer. If the microwave power is lower, cooking time should increase by 1 minute for every 100 Watts. WARNING: do not open or pierce the bag before microwaving. The bag is very hot after cooking; touch it only at the edges.

Gluttonous suggestions

You can use Fennel Slices as side dish, as explained above, but also to make a risotto or a delicious puréed soup. You can even make a toothsome gratin: just place them on an oven pan without thawing, spread some béchamel and sprinkle some grated Parmesan cheese. Bake at 200 °C for 15-20 minutes.
